Welcome to UXify, my portfolio website. Within this website, you can find my portfolio as well as articles about topics that I'm interested in. You can read about my current work and my hobbies as well as view some of my photos and get in touch with me.
I hope you enjoy!

In this paragraph I’ll continuously publish current and past work and describe it with images and videos.
This will not only contain UX related topics, but also some content pieces on photography and drone flying as those are my hobbies as well.
As I like cars and motorcycles, quite a large amount of pictures and videos I'm going to publish here, are bike or car related.
In the future, I also want to publish some tutorials and walkthroughs of UI Designs that I like to create during my free-time.

Other than business interests, I'm a passionate motorcyclist. Currently, I own a Honda CB 500 that I rebuilt as a Caféracer. I'm also very interested in cars. I love traveling, and try to get to know as many countries and cultures as possible. I like mountainbiking, as well as tenis, hiking and swimming, but am also interested in all other kinds of sports. Usability Engineering
with retrofittable
OBD-II devices

The topic for my Bachelorthesis' was about retrofittable OBD-II devices and their usability on the example of a special device, the Pace Link (Pace Telematics GmbH).
Especially the question of how to make telemetry data available with cars that don't have built-in systems for this is interesting, because the data is available but not necessarily retrievable. I selected this topic myself and negotiated the cooperation with the company. The thesis had two major questions:

  • Collect improvement proposals from users, categorize and und concatenate them, so that the company can use them for further versions of the application
  • Answer the question if built-in a fuel consumption trainer can significantly lower the fuel consumption

As an NDA was signed, only information that don't reveal any results of the usability test can be published here.

As part of a university project, the aim was to create a Java based MP3 player
with the following functions:

  • Selecting MP3 files with a file picker
  • Reading of all relevant ID3Tag information
  • Saving the ID3Tag information in an SQLite
  • User Interface based on JavaFX with those functions:
    • Selection of a desired folder
    • Displaying all titles within a selection
    • Creation of playlists
    • Playback
    • Sppoling within a title

Google Analytics

As I'm interested in all different kinds of metrics to make my website perform better, I decided to take some courses about Google Analytics. Fortunately, Google offers free courses, you can access them here: Google Analytics Courses. There are three different courses available:

Google Analytics for Beginners

As I haven't really used Google Analytics yet, I decided to start with the beginner course to get an overview about the product and the functionalities. Google states that the course will teach you the following: "Google Analytics for Beginners shows new users how to create an account, implement tracking code, and set up data filters. You'll learn how to navigate the Google Analytics interface and reports, and set up dashboards and shortcuts. The course will also demonstrate how to analyze basic Audience, Acquisition, and Behavior reports, and set up goals and campaign tracking.". I really liked the structure of the course, the videos were informative yet short enough for me to not loose focus. The course didn't take very long, I completed it within a day. Completing the course qualifies you to get a certificate, that shows that you have successfully completed the course (you need at least 80% for a certificate). Google Analytics for Beginners

Advanced Google Analytics

As the beginner course really gave me a good overview of the functionality of Google Analytics, I was eager to continue with the advanced course. Google says, you will learn the following: "Advanced Google Analytics walks you through how data gets collected and processed into readable reports. You'll learn how to use configurations like Custom Dimensions, Custom Metrics, and Event Tracking to collect data that's specific to your business. The course will also demonstrate more advanced analysis techniques using segmentation, channel reports, audience reports, and custom reports, as well as marketing strategies like remarketing and Dynamic Remarketing that show ads to customers who have visited your website.". Well, for UXify most of the topics are not highly relevant as I don't want to sell anything here, but in general it still sounds quite interesting if you want to learn more about Google Analytics. Course completion also didn't take me too long, the course is well structured as well and the examples within the actual Google Analytics are good for a further understanding and an actual use case while learning. This course can really help if you are already using Google Analytics and want to lift your knowledge to the next level. Google Analytics Advanced

Google Analytics for Power Users

Sometimes when there are three courses, you want to complete all of them even if the content might not be highly relevant for you, just because. This happenend to me with the Google Analytics courses. The Google Analytics for Power Users course deals with the follwing topics: "Google Analytics for Power Users builds on learners' advanced understanding of Google Analytics. Now that you're familiar with the range of features Analytics offers, put your knowledge into action. Learn and practice techniques for comparing users who convert with those who don't, analyzing traffic sources that bring the most value, customizing channels for increased actionability, identifying top performing content on your site, and improving ecommerce performance.". Again, this page is not trying to sell anything, so the relevance of conversion rates and retargeting are quite low, but the course is interesting and might be of value for later products. The Power User course really dives into the endless possibilities of Google Analytics and tries to deal with every speciality that you didn't even know was existant. Google Analytics for Power Users

The Google Academy for Google Analytics really is a useful source of knowledge if you want to improve your Google Analytics skills. Ideally you got a website up and running where you can test what you've learnt. Google Analytics is indispensable if you got an online shop and wanted to get your sales numbers up. I can highly recommend the courses not only because you get certificates that might be useful for later job interviews, but also to extend you knowledge about Google Analytics.

The website Particular Supply is a project with a colleague from Sydney and myself. We want to create a website for products with purpose. Therefore, we teamed up to combine our knowledge of UX/UI Design and Marketing/Commercials. As you may already have guessed, I'm responsible for the tech side, this includes:

  • Setting up the website (URL, SSL, cPanel)
  • Write the HTML, CSS and JS code
  • Implement Google Analytics and other tools to the website
  • Set up social accounts and drive traffic
Particular Supply is described as follows:
"Particular Supply is an online marketplace with a curated selection of products with purpose. Ranging from sustainable, charitable and ethical products we aim to provide you with piece of mind through trusting that every purchase made is positively geared to drive change in the world. We work with retailers, brands and individuals around the world who are out there working to make a difference. We seek to provide a platform that these wonderful brands can not only be promoted, but share their message. We hope that beginning to educate about responsible purchasing will help make the world a better place. The more you know, the less you need and more consciously you buy. Stay informed. Our one stop shop is purposely designed to make our customers shopping experience as simple, easy and informative as possible. We know that asking people to change their buying habits is a big ask, so we want to keep the experience you would normally have online with the added comfort of knowing your contributing to causes with a greater purpose. Above all, we want to empower you to make more conscious purchasing decisions and share the message that drives our partners to deliver the quality products you see online! Knowledge is power. Nothing is too small to help create the change we all want to see in the world, and every purchase made with us supports many causes, getting us one step closer to making change a reality!"
